Apostasy

 What does the Spirit say?

2 Timothy 4 v 1.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. Many mature Christians believe that we are living in the last days with all the signs of the times evident around us.

The Lord Jesus (speaking to the churches”) said, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name from the book of life. Rev 3 v 5

This shows us clearly that it is possible for names to be deleted. Names that have already been written in the Lambs book of Life

The danger of sinning wilfully!

For if we sin wilfully, after we have received the Knowledge of the truth, there remained no more sacrifice for sins.

After we have received indicates that these are believers.

Hebrews 10 v 26.

“Wherewith he was sanctified”.

Can there be an un sanctified believer? Hebrews 10 V 29.

Hebrews 10 V 39. Teaches us that there are some

“Who will draw back unto perdition”.

Jesus said

No man having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9 v 62.

The Impossibility

Hebrews 6 v 4

This scripture tells of the impossibility, of those who were

1/once enlightened

2/ and have tasted the heavenly gift,

3/ and were partakers of the Holy Ghost

4/ who have tasted the good word of God

5/ and the powers of the world to come, if they should fall away….

It is impossible to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to open shame.

How awful apostasy is!!

“For if, after they have escaped the pollution’s of this world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are entangled therin and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they had know it, to turn from the Holy Commandments delivered unto them. 2 Peter 2 v 20

The branch that beareth not fruit is gathered and burned.

Christians are those branches abiding in the vine! God requires fruit! John 15 v 5

. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and burneth forth herbs, meet for them buy whom it is dressed receives blessing from God… But them which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is nigh unto cursing, who’s end is to be burned.

Hebrews 6 v 7/8

In the parable of the Sower, the Lord Jesus tells us that some seed falls among thorns and thistles and it chokes the Word.. The cares and deceitfulness of riches choke the Word and it becomes unfruitful. Matthew 13 v 22

The wheat and tares look alike, and grow together until the harvest.

Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”‘

Matthew 13 v 30

The field is the world, the good seed are the children of the Kingdom, but the tares are the children of the wicked one. Matthew 13 v 38

The test of Christianity is fruit, for by their fruits ye shall know them..

The Danger of Falling

Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10 v 12.

Let us (Christians) therefore labour to enter into that rest, Lest any man fall, after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4 v 11

The Need for Total Obedience

He that saith I know him and keepeth not his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2 v 4

When the Lord Jesus comes in flaming fire he will take vengeance on them that know not God and obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of our Lord. 2 Thessalonians 1 v 8.

And every one that heareth these words of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man which built his house upon the sand and the rain came and the wind blew ands beat upon the house and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7 v 29

A warning to preachers

The Apostle Paul said, I keep my body under and bring it unto subjection, lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be cast away.1 Corinthians 9 v 27

A warning to the wicked.

When I say unto the wicked, “Thou shalt surely die, and thou give him not warning , nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way to save his life: the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity but his blood will I require at thine hand. Ezekiel 3 v 8

A warning to the righteous man.

When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness and commit iniquity and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Ezekiel 3 v 20

For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Romans 11 v 21

Will I be spared?

Be not high minded but fear, for if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee

A warning to liars!

If we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. 1 John 1 v 6

He that saith he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness even till now 1 John 1 v 9

Some disciples who walked away

And from that time many of the disciples went back and walked no more with Him….

John 6 v 66

“For many walk of whom I have told you often and tell you now even weeping that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ”. Philippians 3 v 18

Jesus plainly stated, “That no man, having put his hand to the plough looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God. Luke 9 v 62

Unbelievers Punished

“I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how the Lord having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterwards destroyed them that believed not

Jude 1 v 5

That they could not enter because of unbelief. Hebrews 3 v 19

Danger of false apostles and deceitful workers

And no marvel; for Satan is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11 v 14

Holding faith and a good conscience, which some having put away concerning faith, have made shipwreck. 1 Timothy 1 v 19

Jesus said

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. ……..And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7 v 21-23

How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by those who heard Him, God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders and with divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Hebrews 2 v 3
