Discipleship Lessons 3

We cannot save ourselves

It is Jesus Christ who is the Shepherd of the sheep, who came to seek and save that which is lost… John 10 v 11 “I am the Good Shepherd; the Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep”.

Salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit

1/ His work is to convict of sin. Read: John 16 v 8- 13
Millions have no sense of their sins, the devils lie is to convince them that they are fairly good, not so bad really, quite nice , they have a false sense of their own worth. They are not like other’s who commit murder, who steal and cheat!!! So they deceive themselves, not realising that sin is sin and all sin separates us from God. So anger, pride, false humility,

2/ Of Righteousness ( Holiness) When we realise and accept that God is Holy we know the depravity of the Human heart lost deep in sin. Mark 7 v 20-23

3/ Of Judgment to come. When we realise how awful Judgment is we have good reason to repent . The fear of God comes into our heart and we seek to look for a Saviour

We must ask ourselves this question ? Are we truly born again? Do we have the witness of the Spirit? That we are children of God?
A new Christian must understand the condition of all flesh.
That is, what is in the heart ?

The heart is deceitful Mark 7 v 20 – 23 Read: Jeremiah 17 v 9-10
A new Believer must ask this question ?

Are will still connected to the World ? ? ?

When a baby is born it is still being fed from its mother. So it is in the Spirit. When a spiritual birth takes place all connection with the old life must be cut. The umbilical chord with the World must be cut
Ephesians 2 v 1-2 And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins wherein in times past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.

How can we know we are saved?

Romans 8 v 16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God;
