Death of a Believer – Asleep with the Lord

Body is dead buried in the grave and awaits the resurrection

The Spirit and soul are alive

2 Corinthians 5 v 1-8 . 2 Corinthians 5 v 8

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Consider Lazarus and Dives.

Luke 16 v 24 And he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’

The man is dead and in torment yet he can feel the heat and is thirsty for water. He can speak . He is still in his old corrupt body….

So also is the resurrection of the dead: It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written: “The first man Adam was made a living soul.” The last Adam was made a quickening Spirit. `1 Corinthians 15 v 42-44

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance, knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me. Moreover I will endeavour that you may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. 2 Peter 1 v 13-15

Paul

For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better; nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. Philippians 1 v 23

Thief on the cross Luke 23 v 43

And Jesus said unto him, “Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with Me in Paradise.”

Ps 116 v 15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

1 Corinthians 15 v 34 -45
¶ But some man will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” Thou fool, that which thou sow is not quickened, unless it die.

37 And that which thou sow is not that body which shall be, but bare grain, by chance of wheat or of some other grain. But God gives it a body as it hath pleased Him, and to every seed his own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh; but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies and bodies terrestrial; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star is different from another star in glory.

Hebrews 2 v 14-15

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death—that is, the devil— and deliver those who all their lifetime were subject to bondage through fear of death.

Romans 6 v 8-11

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over Him. For in that He died, He died unto sin once; but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
