Oh taste and see the Lord is good.
May I see your licence? The young policeman was looking at Tony’s case.
“I am not selling anything, Tony replied, just preaching the Gospel and giving out free gospels”. The policeman looked into the case to check the contents what he saw was a varied selection of Christian tracts and free booklets. How did you get on? he had enquired, Oh fine Tony replied many were listening and about ten people have taken Gospels”
Tony had been preaching in the market place a hour earlier and had moved on to this small shopping precinct which led to the seafront. Using a bottle of juice with a typewritten label on it he had illustrated the truth of the Gospel with the text, Oh taste and see. Reminding his listeners who were sitting on nearby seats that the medicine in the bottle does not do you any good. He had explained about the old black and white television cowboy picture that showed a salesman coming into town on a horse and cart selling the “Elixir of Life”, the medicine that was guaranteed to cure all. Then he had read out a list of ailments such as heart failure, gout, headache, backache, toothache, baldness, lumbago, vertigo, rheumatism, pain in the neck, nagging wives, this medicine can cure all. All for a dollar a bottle !!
The small group had been interested and Tony had challenged them , “Who will give me a £1. One man calling out I will. It had been amusing but the message had got over. The word of God, the bible was God’s guaranteed medicine to cure all ills because it dealt with the root cause of sickness, sin. Tony had finished his message with a challenge. He took the bottle and drank deeply from its contents. Pausing after drinking, waiting for a reaction it smacking his lips and enjoying the taste. It was hot so the cooled juice was really delicious. Raising his voice he had cried Oh taste and see that the Lord is good. I can tell you that the medicine in the bottle is good. Very good. You may or may not believe me. But I know because I have tasted.
God’s Word is good it will help you heal you and do you good. Well that had been Tony’s message short simple and illustrated. What had happened was that unknown to Tony there had been a betting shop with its doors wide open. The manager had on hearing the message objected to the Gospel and thought to do some mischief so had taken up the telephone and informed the police that there was a hawker selling unlicensed goods outside his shop. The policeman had come on a false errand. Tony laughed as he went on his way
